If you have more than 50 store locations, then you need to save your product first before adding inventory quantities.

### Duplicate a product <a href="#duplicate-a-product" id="duplicate-a-product"></a>

To save time when you add a new product, you can duplicate a similar product. The duplicate acts as a new product, so you can make changes to the duplicate without affecting the original product.

If you want to add options to an existing product, such as color or size, then [add a variant](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/variants) to the product instead of duplicating the product.

When you duplicate an existing product, you have the option to make the following adjustments before creating the duplicate:

* Set a new title.
* Set the [product status](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/details/product-details-page#product-status) to **Active** or **Draft**.
* Select which other product details to duplicate from a list of options.

**Note**

If you set the product status to **Active** when you duplicate a product, then the duplicate product automatically publishes to the same sales channels as the original product. To publish the duplicate product to only specific sales channels, firstly set the product status to **Draft**, [select the sales channels that you want to publish the product to](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/add-update-products#product-availability), and then set the product status to **Active**.

All other product details except 3D models and videos are automatically copied from the original product to the duplicate product.

**Steps:**

<details>

<summary>Desktop</summary>

1. From your Shopify admin, go to [**Products**](https://admin.shopify.com/products).
2. Click the name of the product that you want to duplicate.
3. Click **Duplicate**.
4. In the **Title** field, enter a name for the duplicate product.
5. Optional: Select which product details to duplicate.
6. In the **Product status** section, select **Set as draft** or **Set as active**.
7. Click **Duplicate product**.

### Set product availability in your sales channels <a href="#product-availability" id="product-availability"></a>

You can control where you're selling a product by including it in your active sales channels. If you decide to exclude a product from a particular sales channel, then it's hidden from that channel. You might hide a product from a sales channel for one of the following reasons:

* You have seasonal products that you want to display for only part of the year.
* A product is out of stock but you will have more in stock at a later date.
* You don't want to sell a product, but you might offer it again later.
* You want to offer online exclusive, or in-store exclusive products.
* You don't want to sell a product using a particular sales channel.

**Steps:**

<details>

<summary>Desktop</summary>

1. From your Shopify admin, go to [**Products**](https://admin.shopify.com/products).
2. Click a product's name to open its details. The product is included in the sales channels listed in the **Publishing** section.
3. Click **…** > **Manage sales channels**.
4. In the dialog, select or deselect the sales channels that you want to change the publishing settings for.
5. Click **Done**.
6. Click **Save**.

### Edit the search engine listing for a product <a href="#edit-a-search-engine-listing-preview" id="edit-a-search-engine-listing-preview"></a>

You can edit the text that's displayed in search engine results for a product. Descriptive titles and descriptions can help new customers to find your online store and encourage them to click the link. Learn more about [search engine optimization](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/seo).

When you make changes to a product's search engine listing, you can view a preview of how it might display.

If you enter more than 70 characters for a title, or if you enter more than 320 characters for a description, then your text might get cut off in search engine results.

**Note**

When you create a new product, a URL and handle are automatically generated. You can edit the handle to make it match your product title, but don't edit it too often or the product might not display in search engine results.

**Steps:**

1. From your Shopify admin, go to [**Products**](https://admin.shopify.com/products).
2. Click the name of the product that you want to edit the search engine listing for.
3. In the **Search engine listing** section, click the pencil icon.
4. In the **Page title** field, enter a descriptive title for your product. The title displays as a link in search engine results.
5. In the **Meta description** field, enter a description for your product. Consider including relevant [keywords](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/promoting-marketing/seo/adding-keywords) and your store's name to help new customers find your product.
6. Optional: In the **URL handle** field, you can change part of the web address for your product. The web address can't contain any spaces.
7. Click **Save**.

### Scan a barcode with your device's camera <a href="#scan-a-barcode" id="scan-a-barcode"></a>

You can use the [Shopify app](https://www.shopify.com/install/detect) to enter a barcode for a product by scanning it with your mobile device's camera.

<details>

<summary>iPhone</summary>

1. From the [Shopify app](https://www.shopify.com/install/detect), go to **Products** > **All products**.
2. Tap an existing product, or [create a new product](https://help.shopify.com/en/manual/products/add-update-products#add-a-new-product).
3. In the **Inventory** section, do one of the following:
   * For a product without variants, tap **Edit**.
   * For a product with variants, tap the number of items available, and then tap a variant.
4. In the **Barcode (ISBN, UPC, etc.)** field, tap the barcode icon, and then follow the steps to open your device's camera.
5. The camera's screen displays the corners of a box. Position your device so that the barcode fits within the box.
6. Wait for Shopify to recognize the barcode. When it does, the app returns to the previous screen and the barcode number is entered for you.
