Note
If you have more than 50 store locations, then you need to save your product first before adding inventory quantities.
To save time when you add a new product, you can duplicate a similar product. The duplicate acts as a new product, so you can make changes to the duplicate without affecting the original product.
If you want to add options to an existing product, such as color or size, then add a variant to the product instead of duplicating the product.
When you duplicate an existing product, you have the option to make the following adjustments before creating the duplicate:
Set a new title.
Set the product status to Active or Draft.
Select which other product details to duplicate from a list of options.
Note
If you set the product status to Active when you duplicate a product, then the duplicate product automatically publishes to the same sales channels as the original product. To publish the duplicate product to only specific sales channels, firstly set the product status to Draft, select the sales channels that you want to publish the product to, and then set the product status to Active.
All other product details except 3D models and videos are automatically copied from the original product to the duplicate product.
Steps:
After you've created products, you can edit the products to change their descriptions, prices, and any other product details. Your saved changes take effect immediately in your online store.
Although you can edit your product details at any time, the changes can affect your reports. For more information, refer to Changes to product details.
Tip
To edit several products at the same time, use the bulk editor.
Steps:
You can preview how a product will display on your online store directly from your Shopify admin or the Shopify app.
Steps:
You can control where you're selling a product by including it in your active sales channels. If you decide to exclude a product from a particular sales channel, then it's hidden from that channel. You might hide a product from a sales channel for one of the following reasons:
You have seasonal products that you want to display for only part of the year.
A product is out of stock but you will have more in stock at a later date.
You don't want to sell a product, but you might offer it again later.
You want to offer online exclusive, or in-store exclusive products.
You don't want to sell a product using a particular sales channel.
Steps:
Tip
You can also set product availability by sales channel using a bulk action.
You can edit the text that's displayed in search engine results for a product. Descriptive titles and descriptions can help new customers to find your online store and encourage them to click the link. Learn more about search engine optimization.
When you make changes to a product's search engine listing, you can view a preview of how it might display.
If you enter more than 70 characters for a title, or if you enter more than 320 characters for a description, then your text might get cut off in search engine results.
Note
When you create a new product, a URL and handle are automatically generated. You can edit the handle to make it match your product title, but don't edit it too often or the product might not display in search engine results.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Products.
Click the name of the product that you want to edit the search engine listing for.
In the Search engine listing section, click the pencil icon.
In the Page title field, enter a descriptive title for your product. The title displays as a link in search engine results.
In the Meta description field, enter a description for your product. Consider including relevant keywords and your store's name to help new customers find your product.
Optional: In the URL handle field, you can change part of the web address for your product. The web address can't contain any spaces.
Click Save.
You can use the Shopify app to enter a barcode for a product by scanning it with your mobile device's camera.
If you no longer want to display a product in your online store, but you don't want to permanently delete the product, then you can archive the product instead. You can archive a single product, or you can archive multiple products at the same time using a bulk action. If you archive a product, then the product is moved to the Archived tab of the Products page in your Shopify admin.
Steps:
From your Shopify admin, go to Products.
Click the Archived tab.
Click the product that you want to unarchive.
On the product details page, click Unarchive product.
In the dialog, click Unarchive product.
You can delete a single product, or you can delete multiple products at the same time using a bulk action. When you delete a product, it's permanently removed from Shopify. Deleted products can't be restored. If you run out of stock or no longer want to display a product for any reason, but you don't want to permanently delete the product from your store, then you can archive the product instead.
